 Full-back Balshaw joined Leeds in 2004 |
Iain Balshaw is to join Gloucester on a two-year deal after leaving Leeds following their Premiership relegation. The 27-year-old back is the third international to join the club, following Italian duo Marco Bortolami and Carlos Nieto.
Balshaw, who has 24 England caps, has made 106 Premiership appearances for Bath and Leeds, scoring 38 tries.
"Gloucester is a club with huge potential and I cannot wait be a part of it," he told the club's website.
The Lions star added: "I'm really excited to be joining one of the true powers of English rugby. I have been hugely impressed by their play this season and I was left in no doubt about their vision for next season and beyond."
Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan is hoping to use Balshaw's experience as the club take part in next season's Heineken Cup.
"We have made some outstanding progress with a group of youngsters this season but alongside that we felt we needed some experience and Iain has plenty of that," he said.
"It is a signing I am thrilled about because Iain is an expressive and dangerous runner and he will also be a tremendous influence on the young group of backs already making their mark.
"We have made significant additions in other areas of the squad and Iain's arrival once again signals our intent."
