Gloucester forward James Merriman has agreed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Kingsholm until June 2007. The 22-year-old is a former captain of Wales' Under-21 side.
"James is a highly talented athlete and we want to see the best of him at Gloucester - he has a bright future," said Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan.
Merriman added: "I want to be part of Gloucester's future and I am really confident I can be."
The open-side flanker said that there were chances for him to return to Wales.
"There were opportunities for me in Wales but I never wanted to leave Gloucester and I am determined to fight for a place," he said.
