Jonny Wilkinson could begin his latest comeback from injury when Newcastle host Worcester in the Guinness Premiership on New Year's Day. Wilkinson has not played for more than six weeks after groin surgery.
He has started only four games for the Falcons this season, but could be named among the replacements for Sunday.
"We will not force him, as that would be stupid, but if he is right for Sunday he will play some part," said Newcastle rugby director Rob Andrew.
