Matt Holt's dramatic late try guaranteed Leeds' Zurich Premiership survival for another season at the Recreation Ground.

Leeds' players were unaware of other goings on in the Premiership and replacement hooker Holt made sure when he barged his way over.

Bath had dominated the game and led thanks to a Chris Malone drop-goal and an Olly Barkley penalty.

But they could not turn their pressure into points and paid the price.

Despite the defeat John Connolly's side have secured their place in next season's Heineken Cup after other resultsmeant they finished fourth in the Premiership table.

Match-winner Matt Holt described his match-winning try which secured Leeds' Zurich Premiership status as the highlight of his career.

"I've had plenty of highlights with this club but this one just tops it all," said Holt.

"We've achieved so many things this season and one thing we've always focused on is working for each other.

We probably need a bigger squad, but we've got the nucleus
Tykes coach Phil Davies
"We knew we couldn't control the other results - there was nothing we could do about them so we had to get a result.

"We didn't know what was going on anywhere else. We just knew we needed points.

"When the last lineout came we knew it was the last play, Alan Dickens found some room to make a break and I was lucky enough to get on the end of it."

Looking ahead coach Phil Davies added, "We probably need a bigger squad, but we've got the nucleus, Justin Marshall coming and we've got a few other players in mind."

Bath coach John Connolly was disappointed with the defeat but believes finishing fourth and qualifying for Europe was a fair return for a side that has had more than its fair share of injury woes.

Fourth place is not first place but we're in Europe and that was always our first goal
Bath coach John Connolly
"Leeds made very few errors and our form has just flattened out over the last few weeks," he said. "We're very disappointed with what happened today but this team's fought hard throughout the season.

"It was just our execution and precision that let us down but that's something we'll be working on very hard for next season.

"Fourth place is not first place but we're in Europe and that was always our first goal when our second goal was to win the Premiership.

"We finished first last year, fourth this year and everyone will know they're in a game against us in this competition and in Europe next year."
