Bruce Reihana missed a difficult penalty with the final kick of the match to condemn Northampton to a seventh Premiership loss of the season.

Shane Drahm scored all Worcester's points against his old club, including a winning penalty 11 minutes from time.

Fly-half Drahm finished a superb early move for the Warriors, then added a conversion and five penalties.

Saints scored tries via flanker Darren Fox and centre Rhodri Davies but could not make their late pressure tell.

There's no problem with morale
Northampton coach Budge Pountney

The result was hard on the the home side, who were inspired by Carlos Spencer and had Ben Cohen in top form on his return from England duty.

Reihana added a conversion and three penalties, but could not split the uprights with a difficult chance from wide on the right at the death.

Defeat leaves Saints stuck in what could be a prolonged battle against the drop with Leeds and Newcastle, while victory lifts Worcester up to fourth.

However, Northampton coach Budge Pountney insisted his side have the resolve to bounce back.

"The players put a huge effort into the game and we're putting more pressure on teams but there's still areas that need work," he said.

"We also need to stop this losing streak now. It'll be a tough ask to do that against Leicester in the Powergen Cup next week, but we will give it our best shot.

I think we did enough to win the game but we had chances to score more tries
Worcester coach Anthony Eddy
"But there's no problem with morale. The side's got a fantastic spirit."

Worcester coach Anthony Eddy praised Drahm's kicking but admitted his side had not got it quite right on tries.

"Shane's got good mental resolve. He missed a few early kicks but when we needed him to get them over he did," he said.

"I think we did enough to win the game but we had chances to score more tries.

"We had one foot in touch and one disallowed for a forward pass and should have capitalised on those but couldn't get our execution right."
