Leeds director of rugby Phil Davies saluted a heroic display as his side upset Bath to win the Powergen Cup. "We had a lot of belief and it is a great day for the club," he said. "To come away with a trophy is fantastic.
"It is another step in our history and hopefully we can push on from here. We put a lot of hard work in and hopefully we have made Yorkshire proud.
"I would have been happier if we had had the ball a bit more in the second half but the defence was magnificent."
Leeds' victory will see them play in the Heineken Cup next season if they avoid relegation from the Zurich Premiership.
Two points adrift at the bottom, their survival hinges on two remaining matches against Harlequins and Bath this month.
"It would be a shame to let this Heineken Cup go to waste," Davies added.
Balshaw suffered more injury woe |
"We've got it all to do now to get the results but we're in good form and everyone will be buoyed by this result." They may have to do without captain Iain Balshaw, the England full-back departing injured after just three minutes of the final.
"I had a strain in midweek on my quad and I think I have torn it," Balshaw said. "I'll know more when I've had a scan, but hopefully I'll be OK for the Quins game.
"It was just one of those things but I am delighted for the boys. We knew we could do it and I am just thrilled."
Leeds fly-half Gordon Ross, named man-of-the-match for his assured display, hailed "a great team effort".
"We got a lot of flak at the beginning of the season for not playing much rugby so we just came out and enjoyed ourselves in the first half," he said.
"We defended bravely in the second half and got the result we deserved.
"As (hooker) Mark Regan said, we all ate from the same plate today."
