The 30-year-old loose head prop, who has a British passport through his Glaswegian father, has signed until the end of the season.

"I came here last year with Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup and it's a great set-up," said Anderson, a former Australia Under-21 international.

"I'm here until the end of the season at the moment, and I'm just keen to get stuck in to some good hard rugby."

Falcons director of rugby Rob Andrew said: "We have seen Grant play against us first hand in Europe last season, and we believe he will be a solid addition to our front row."
