 | Northampton 20 (10) Tries: Diggin, Krige Con: Drahm (2) Pens: Drahm (2)
Saracens 21 (10) Tries: Bracken, Harris Con: Jackson Pens: Jackson (3) |
Northampton dropped to the bottom of the Zurich Premiership table after Glen Jackson's injury-time penalty gave Saracens a thrilling victory.
Shane Drahm almost snatched the win for Saints with the last kick of the match but his penalty hit the crossbar.
Northampton took an early lead through Paul Diggin's try, but Kyran Bracken hit back for a 10-10 half-time score.
After the break, Corne Krige scored for Saints and Dan Harris responded for Saracens before Jackson's late kick.
Drahm gave the home side the advantage with a penalty after Cobus Visagie was penalised at the breakdown.
Soon after, Bruce Reihana's power and nimble footwork created the space for Diggin to cross with Drahm converting.
Jackson notched up Saracens first points with the boot and, just before half-time, Bracken took advantage of prolonged pressure to nip over under the posts.
In the second half, Krige was driven over after a catch-and-drive from a lineout, but the best try of the match came when Tevita Vaikona, Mark Bartholomeusz and Ben Johnston combined to set up Harris.
Northampton regained the lead on 70 minutes through another Drahm penalty before the nail-biting finale.
