Callard to give up Leeds position
Jon Callard
Jon Callard will step down as Leeds first-team coach at the end of the season, the club have announced.

The 39-year-old former England full-back joined the club from Bath in the summer of 2002.

Rumours suggest Callard could return to the West country after Bath coach John Connolly announced on Thursday he will quit his post at the end of the season.

"I'm completely committed to the Tykes for the rest of the season and intend to fulfil my contract," said Callard.

"I have had some great times at Leeds, including gaining a place in the Heineken Cup, reaching a (domestic) cup semi-final, and this season we have the opportunity to go even further still.

"I am delighted to have had the opportunity to work at such a unique rugby establishment, but now I think the time is right to look for new opportunities in the game."

Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington revealed on Friday Callard had opted to move on when the club opened contract negotiations.

Hetherington added: "We would like to thank him for his honesty, which now gives us time to plan for next season, and Jon the chance to look for opportunities elsewhere."
