Pertemps Bees failed to repeat their giant-killing of Wasps in last year's Powergen Cup as they were trounced 81-17 by Premiership side Leeds.

Leeds ran in a total of 13 tries, while there was some consolation for the visitors, who touched down twice.

The Tykes got the rout under way after just two minutes with a penalty try in the wake of a Dave Knight error.

Tom Biggs led the try-scoring with three, while ex-England full-back Tim Stimpson had two of his own.

Headingley was treated to a flurry of sparkling running from the home side.

Chris Bell was the first to the fore for try number two as he beat three tacklers to send Phil Christophers comfortably through to score.

Despite Leeds maintaining the ascendancy, their free scoring was curtailed for the next 18 minutes before Colm Rigney bundled his way over.

That's the most satisfied I've been all season

Biggs then opened his account as Gordon Ross' delightful pass was timed to perfection, allowing Biggs to charge over and take the score to 35-0.

As they continually leaked tries, Pertemps Bees finally found their own way through after second-row forward Rob Hurrell bulldozed his way over.

Aaron Takarangi then added another to give the scoreline marginally more respectability.

Stimpson, who had scored an early try, added another in the 53rd minute to take the Leeds score past the half-century mark.

And Biggs rounded off the rout with tries in the 64th and 70th minutes.

I thought they might win by 50 or 60 points but I thought 80 was a bit harsh
Pertemps Bees coach
Phil Maynard
Leeds director of rugby Phil Davies said: "That's the most satisfied I've been all season.

"It wasn't the scoreline as such but the way we played that I thought was the most important thing. We've got to build on it and repeat that in the next two league matches."

Pertemps Bees coach Phil Maynard admitted he had feared the worst from the start of the game.

"The tone was set when we were harshly penalised at the breakdown in the opening minute and we never recovered from that," he said.

"I thought they might win by 50 or 60 points but I thought 80 was a bit harsh.

"I'm a bit embarrassed, but we are a small club and they probably paid more for their full-back than we did for our entire team."
