A brilliant late try from Harry Ellis helped Leicester secure a thrilling draw against Bath at Welford Road.

Michael Lipman's try and eight points from the boot of Olly Barkley gave Bath a 13-0 lead at the break.

Leicester hit back through a Geordan Murphy try and two penalties, with Barkley slotting a drop goal for Bath.

And with time running out Ellis scooted over in the corner for an unconverted try to level the scores and send the Tigers to the top of the Premiership.

Leicester went hard at the visitors from the kick-off and it looked as though Bath were in for a torrid afternoon.

However, it was Bath who opened the scoring after just four minutes through a controversial try from Lipman.

Former South Africa centre Robbie Fleck made a searing break and Lipman was in support to take the pass and race over from 20 metres.

Fleck's pass looked forward, much to the anger of the Leicester supporters, but the try stood and Barkley added the conversion.

Five minutes later Barkley slotted a penalty and he put Bath further ahead with a second penalty right on the stroke of half-time.

Leicester had their chances and came close to a penalty try after series of scrums but trailing 13-0 at the break they faced a huge task to get back in the game.

They finally opened their account through a Murphy penalty five minutes into the second half and the Irish full-back was soon back in the action.

England hopeful Martin Corry burst through midfield and quick hands sent Murphy over in the corner for a fine score.

He could not add the conversion and Bath edged back into an eight-point lead through a Barkley drop goal.

With 10 minutes to go Ross Broadfoot slotted a simple penalty to make it 16-11 and the Tigers levelled when Ellis wrong-footed the Bath defence and scored a stunning solo try in the corner.

Broadfoot could not slot the conversion but the draw was enough for Leicester to leapfrog Sale and go top of the table.
