Steve Borthwick has been capped 13 times by England

Bath lock Steve Borthwick has been given a seven-day suspension after being cited for foul play during the league game against Newcastle.

The 24-year-old was found guilty of punching and will now miss Bath's match against Harlequins on Saturday.

Newcastle forward Phil Dowson has received a seven-day ban following his sending off in the same match.

A Rugby Football Union panel deemed the week lay-off imposed by his club sufficient punishment.

Dowson admitted throwing a punch in a brawl but will be available for Saturday's trip to Gloucester.
