Record crowd for opener
Wasps pair Alex King and Rob Howley with the Premiership trophy
Wasps will be defending their crown
The new Zurich Premiership season will kick off in front of a record crowd at Twickenham next month.

More than 36,000 tickets have already been sold for the double-header that sees London Irish taking on Harlequins and champions Wasps tackling Saracens.

The attendance is already guaranteed to smash the previous Premiership best of 20,840, when Irish played Bath, and up to 50,000 could turn up on 4 September.

The games are the first standard Zurich fixtures to be played at Twickenham.

Premier Rugby's marketing manager Simon Hoskins admitted: "Early ticket sales for the London double-header have far exceeded our expectations.

"It should be a great event, and really shows the growing popularity of Premiership rugby."

Continuing the trend, Bath have announced record season ticket sales for the new campaign - up from 5,111 to 5,935.
