Worsley is part of powerful Wasps back row |
England flanker Joe Worsley has signed a new two-year deal with Premiership champions London Wasps. He follows in the footsteps of England number eight Lawrence Dallaglio, who has also just signed a new contract with Wasps.
Like Dallaglio, Worsley will be on less money than before.
"The reality of the wage cap means that if a player wants to play for a competitive team he may need to take a pay cut," said Worsley.
"With the changes in the squad-cap this season, I have agreed to a pay cut."
Despite the reduction in his wages Worsley is delighted to be staying with the High Wycombe-based side.
"I'm really glad that I will be staying and looking forward to furthering my career at Wasps," he said.
"I had offers from other clubs but at the end of the day playing for Wasps is what it's all about.
"I joined the club when I was 16 and am still enjoying my rugby here, so why change something that's not broken."
Wasps director of rugby Warren Gatland said: "Joe is vital cog in the Wasps set-up. He is immensely talented and it was important that we signed him on again."
Centre Fraser Waters has also committed his future to the club after agreeing a new two-year deal. "I was lucky that I escaped the wrath of any pay cuts so I'm pretty happy," Waters said.
"I had some attractive offers from other clubs, including Europe on much better money, but Wasps are the team everyone wants to play for."
