Stimpson is a valuable player for Leicester |
Leicester director of rugby Dean Richards has played down speculation linking full-back Tim Stimpson with a move to Perpignan. Reports in France suggested the England international could follow Harlequins wing Dan Luger to the south-west of France.
But Richards said: "I don't think Tim's aware of that," pointing out that Stimpson is still contracted to the Tigers next season.
"He has another year on his contract," Richards added. "I don't normally talk about contracts, but it would be very difficult for him."
We have got to strengthen because of the World Cup |
Richards is looking to further strengthen his squad rather than lose players after a disappointing season by Leicester's standards. The Tigers relinquished the Zurich Premiership and Heineken Cup crowns and are battling to qualify for Europe next season through the Wildcard play-offs.
Leicester lost the first leg of their semi-final 26-23 to Harlequins on Wednesday.
Richards has already secured Italian fly-half Ramiro Pez and Wales and British Lions prop Darren Morris.
More new arrivals will follow, with Leicester likely to lose a large contingent to World Cup duty during the early part of next season. "We are looking to make a few more signings, but we will wait and see," Richards added.
"We have got to strengthen because of the World Cup and it's a case of seeing where we need to strengthen rather than just going out there and buying for the sake of it."
