Bristol stung by Wasps

Bristol 19-34 Wasps

Bristol slipped to the foot of the Premiership table on Sunday with defeat at home to Wasps.

In stark contrast, the win lifted Wasps up to second place in the table, leaving them just one win away from a guaranteed place in the end of season play-offs.

The home side took the lead after five minutes when full-back Shane Drahm kicked a 45 metre penalty from out wide on the left.

Drahm should have increased Bristol's lead midway through the half but his 30 metre kick from in front of the posts went low and wide.

Wasps finally got on the scoreboard just before the half hour when centre Stuart Abbott crossed on the right for the first try of the game.

King added the conversion only for Drahm to land two penalties to give the Shoguns a 9-7 half-time lead.

Paul Volley put Wasps in front early in the second half after a drive from a lineout.

Tries: Daniel
Cons: Drahm
Pens: Drahm 4
Wasps 34
Tries: Volley, Erinle, Lewsey, Gisbergen, Worsley, Abbott
Cons: King 2

King missed the conversion but Bristol failed to capitalise when Drahm missed a second penalty kick.

And the Shoguns were left to rue the missed chances when Josh Lewsey scored against his former club on the hour following a good break by King and Abbott.

King added the conversion, but failed to find the mark with the next try after Lewsey set up Mark van Gisbergen with a clever dummy to score out wide.

Drahm added a fourth penalty on the hour to reduce the deficit, but Wasps hit back when centre Ayoola Erinle crashed over.

Flanker Joe Worsley scored Wasps' sixth try out wide before wing Brendon Daniel scored an injury-time consolation try for the Shoguns, converted by Drahm.
