Burke puts bite on Tigers

Harlequins 17-9 Leicester

Harlequins fly-half Paul Burke
Burke had a great day with the boot for Quins

Leicester's Zurich Premiership play-off hopes suffered a setback on Saturday as Harlequins came from behind to beat them at The Stoop.

One try, three penalties and a drop goal were enough for Quins to register their first win over the Tigers at home in the League for 11 years.

Harlequins remain seventh in the League table but move nine points clear of basement side Newcastle Falcons.

We've had a tough year and we have struggled so much with injuries but now we are in the clear
Harlequins' boss Mark Evans

The Tigers had taken a 6-0 lead inside the game's opening quarter and led 9-5 at the break, as Quins replied to three Tim Stimpson penalties with a try from wing Ben Gollings.

But in the second half, Harlequins dug in to shut out Leicester, depsite losing flanker Ace Tiatia to the sin-bin, and won the game through the boot of Paul Burke.

Leicester 9
Pens: Stimpson 3

The former Ireland stand-off kicked three penalties and added a brilliant late drop goal to seal victory and deny Leicester even a bonus point for losing by fewer than seven.

Strong winds made conditions difficult for both sides, but Stimpson's accuracy with the boot gave the visitors the upper hand early on.

However, Quins kept their line intact and scored the game's only try when Gollings beat Stimpson with a clever kick and chase in the Leicester 22.

You can't always be successful...at some stage you are going to have a hiccup
Leicester boss Dean Richards

Tiatia was sent to the sin-bin for fighting midway through the second half but Harlequins made light of his absence in defence.

Burke booted the Londoners clear in the closing stages to all but ensure their Premiership survival.

Leicester remain in fourth place in the table, but now have Leeds and Northampton breathing down their necks and their place in the Championship play-offs hanging in the balance.
