Andrew is coaching the Falcons in tandem with Andrew Blades |
Newcastle coach Steve Bates has left the club by "amicable agreement". Bates, who was a key figure when the Falcons won the Premiership title in 1998, was offered a different role when Andrew Blades joined the coaching staff alongside rugby director Rob Andrew.
But the role, which involved technical analysis of opposition teams, effectively sidelined him from hands-on participation at the Kingston Park outfit.
To be perfectly honest, I don't think what has happened is any fault of mine |
"We have reached an amicable agreement with Steve regarding his contract, and he is released from it with immediate effect," said Falcons chief executive John Parkinson.
"On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Steve for his work with the club, and wish him and his family all the best for the future."
Bates will now consider his future while Newcastle step up their fight against relegation from the Zurich Premiership.
"This happens in professional sport, and you sometimes have to accept that, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think what has happened is any fault of mine," he said.
"I have no doubts about the legitimacy of my coaching ideas and credentials. I will sit back and take some time before making a decision on my future."
