Gibson joins Shoguns
Daryl Gibson grabs a try for Canterbury against the Sharks in Durban, April 2002.
Gibson has 77 Super 12 games under his belt
All Black Daryl Gibson has agreed to join Bristol on a two-year contract.

The news softened the disappointment of Shoguns fans following their team's 45-30 home loss to Saracens.

Gibson, 27, can play centre, wing or full-back, and will arrive in the next few days to link up with his new team-mates.

He has won 19 caps for the All Blacks in addition to playing for 77 games for Canterbury Crusaders in the Super 12 competition

Gibson, who made his Test debut against Samoa three years ago, has also featured in Canterbury's National Provincial Championship side.

Natural leader

Bistol coach Peter Thorburn, who was part of the Kiwi set-up when Gibson made his Test breakthrough, said: "Daryl is a great signing.

"His qualities on and off the pitch gives the Bristol team a great opportunity.

Gibson fancies a change of scene
"He has been in our mind since Jason Little first discussed his retirement with us, and we are pleased to announce his arrival.

"He will give us a strong link into the culture of his former teams, whose defensive capabilities are possibly the best in world rugby.

"Daryl is a natural leader, and has captained the Crusaders a number of times."

Gibson told the official Canterbury website: "I've played all my rugby for Canterbury, and while I've loved it, I am keen to try something different.

"Bristol are a young team, and I am sure that my experience will help out."

The All Black will arrive in Britain nursing a broken nose after suffering a fracture during the first half of his farewell match for Canterbury against Southland.

Surgeons will reset his nose on Tuesday before he flies out to join his new club.
