Dean Ryan has moved to Kingsholm

Dean Ryan signed a four-year deal to work alongside Gloucester coach Nigel Melville on Friday, just one day after he left Bristol Shoguns.

Former Wasps and Newcastle back row forward Ryan previously worked with Melville as part of the England Under-21 coaching set-up.

And Melville also revealed that former Brisbane Broncos fitness coach Rudi Meir and Springbok therapist Wayne Diesel have moved to Kingsholm.

Ryan admitted that the chance to work with Melville was the main attraction for him.

"Nigel Melville is totally the reason why I came to Gloucester," said Ryan.

"We have worked together at England Under-21 level and working within a club environment is something we have talked about - Gloucester have made that possible.

"I wanted the chance to work in the best coaching environment and now I have got that opportunity."

Ryan also explained the circumstances of his departure from Bristol.

"I didn't have a contract with Bristol and after the play-off final, made them aware of my situation, but this is a fantastic opportunity," he said.

Melville was equally thrilled to be working alongside an old friend.

"This is fantastic news for Gloucester," said Melville. "The relationship we have is very strong and that is a positive.

"The chance for us to work together was one we could not miss.

"Dean was a quality player and now he is developing in the same way as he did in his playing days as a coach.

"We are totally different characters, despite the fact we come from similar backgrounds and that is a good thing. I am delighted."
