Sale and England full-back Jason Robinson has been named the Zurich Premiership Player of the Year.

The former league star has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months, notching up nine tries for his club, who finished the Premiership in second place and could yet grab an impressive double in the Zurich Championship and Parker-Pen Shield.

At a ceremony in central London, Leicester flanker Lewis Moody, who broke into the senior England side this term following a succession of outstanding club displays, was named Young Player of the Year.

And London Irish player-coach Brendan Venter was voted overseas player of the season.

"There are still a lot of things I've got to learn," Robinson said after receiving his award, "and this is just a reflection on how well the club has done this year.

"We've got a final next week in the Parker-Pen Shield and we're into the semi-final of the play-offs as well.

"But, that said, I'm obviously delighted to achieve this in only my first full season of rugby union.

"I made the switch 18 months ago and I never though things would happen this quickly, but obviously I'm delighted."
