The Virginia Park pitch was too waterlogged to play and match officials called off the fixtures shortly before midday. Llanelli had been looking to build on their Boxing Day victory over Newport, having been stunned at Ebbw Vale the weekend before. The Scarlets named a weakened side against Ebbw Vale and were made to pay by the Steelmen, losing 20-8. The big guns then returned against Newport to get the Scarlets' domestic season back on track with a 23-13 win at Stradey Park. Caerphilly, meanwhile, must wait for the chance for a domestic win having lost all four of their Welsh Premiership matches so far. A trip to Bridgend on Boxing Day resulted in a 48-3 hammering, but the Castlemen showed their potential at home five days before by unluckily losing 19-20 to Swansea. |
