Ulster hammered Caerphilly 67-15 in Saturday's Celtic League clash at Virginia Park.

The Irish province earned a bonus point thanks to this eight-try victory which moved them ahead of Llanelli in the Celtic League table.

Ulster will meet Llanelli in their remaining group match at Ravenhill in three weeks with the winner guaranteed to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Alan Solomons' side were always in control of Saturday's match.

Two early David Humphreys penalties put Alan Solomons' side 6-0 ahead after 10 minutes and a Tony McWhirter try then helped extend the visitors' lead to 17 points.

With victory assured, Ulster eased off in the closing stages and Caerphilly had the last word through Chiltern's second try although it scarcely served as a consolation.

David Humphreys finished with 27 points for Ulster.

The Irish star acknowledged afterwards that it had been a comfortable victory.

"We were never in any trouble because we got off to a good start," said Humphreys.

"In a couple of games recently, we made slow starts but today we started with a bang, getting a couple of kicks and a couple of tries.

"Caerphilly heads seemed to drop after that and it was fairly comfortable for us".
