Newport probe Rogers incident
Cardiff's Peter Rogers gets his marching orders from referee David McHugh
Rogers was sin-binned against Newport on Saturday
Newport have launched an investigation after a supporter confronted Cardiff prop Peter Rogers after Saturday's televised Celtic League match.

The Newport fan can clearly be seen shoving Rogers in his back as the former Black and Ambers leaves the field at Rodney Parade.

There are even suggestions that the fan attempted a head-butt.

Rogers was sin-binned during the match, which Cardiff eventually won 27-25 thanks to a missed penalty by Newport's Shane Howarth.

Said Newport chief executive Keith Grainger: "Nobody at work has reported anything to me, and there has been no complaint from the referee (David McHugh), Rogers, the Cardiff club or anyone else.

"All I can say if what is claimed is the case, if it is on video and the guy has butted, or attempted to butt Peter Rogers, then clearly the club will ban him for life if he can be identified.

"We will look at the video, and if there is an incident worthy of further investigation, then we will take the appropriate steps.

"But if we cannot identify him, then we can do very little."

Rogers declined to discuss the incident immediately after the game, but he has since admitted that he "found it disturbing".

"I don't mind taking stick during a game, but afterwards it is different," Rogers told the Western Mail.

"The fan approached me and at first I thought he was going to shake my hand, but then he said a few unrepeatable things and gave me a shove in the back.

"There was no way I could respond in any way. I didn't want to get involved, so I just walked away."

Newport have made a disastrous start to the season, losing all five of their opening Celtic League matches.
