Ponty's Dale McIntosh wins a lineout

Neither side showed enough guile or imagination to breach each other's organised defences and were invariably forced to kick downfield to make any headway.

Both Jenkins and Warlow missed their first penalties, but they soon found their accustomed accuracy to land two kicks apiece for a 6-6 half-time score.

Pontypridd had looked most likely to score a try in the first-half, and that trend continued in the opening minutes after the break.

Geraint Lewis linked up well in with Jenkins to final breach the Bridgend midfield, but any hope of developing the advantage was dashed by a home defender cynically killing the ball.

Jenkins added an extra three points from the resulting penalty in front of the posts.

The fly-half then virtually killed off the game in the next ten minutes as Bridgend conceded three penalties in their own half in quick succession.

Parks gave a faultless defensive display

Jenkins was in no mood to let the home side off the hook as all three kicks sailed perfectly between the posts to take the score to 6-18.

It was not pretty to watch, but it was certainly effective.

Bridgend were simply could not get into the game as the Ponty packed starved of any decent possession.

But another Warlow penalty with 13 minutes to go gave them slight hope of a comeback and kept the home fans interested.

That hope did not last long, though, as a Jenkins penalty was soon followed by the only try of the night from the impressive Parks.

Lewis collected a loose pass in his own half and forced his way between two would-be tacklers. Brett Davey was on hand to take Lewis' pass and then to deliver a perfectly timed pass to the supporting Parks.

Bridgend looked for some crumbs of comfort in injury time, but after holding them out for the previous 80 minutes, Pontypridd were in no mood to let them through even at the death.
