Andy Moore and Shane Williams crossed for superb second-half tries as Neath defeated Swansea for their first win at St Helen's in six seasons.

Steve Winn notched a late try for the All Whites to ensure a grandstand finish to the Celtic League encounter on Friday night, but Neath were able to hold on.

The match came to life just past the hour when scrum-half Moore swooped for his touchdown after excellent work from Sean Marsden, Dave Tiueti and Lee Jarvis.

The Welsh All Blacks then struck again when a sublime kick over the top from Moore allowed Williams to touch down and celebrate his 100th Neath appearance in style.

Jarvis, on as a second-half replacement for Shaun Connor, converted both tries and his kicking was to prove a telling factor.

The fly-half was involved in controversy before the match when it was revealed that Jarvis failed a drugs test last year for the banned substance ephedrine.

The result only came to light after UK Sport - the body responsible for drugs testing in Wales, Scotland and England - published its annual report.

A Welsh Rugby Union disciplinary committee accepted Jarvis' explanation that he had unknowingly taken the drug as it was an ingredient in a medicinal flu remedy.

However, the revelations certainlt did little to effect his game and it was Swansea who were left feeling sick at the end.

Throwing caution to the wind in the final stages, with fullback Kevin Morgan standing out, Swansea hit back after Arwel Thomas put Winn over.

But the centre's score was too little, too late despite a conversion from Thomas, on as a replacement for Gavin Henson at No 10.

Until the late flurry of action, the match had been a mediocre affair.

Aimless

Neath's Connor claimed the only points of the first half with a drop goal, but skill levels were generally low.

Connor also converted a penalty and Swansea's Henson was successful with three kicks of his own before he was replaced.

The error count was shocking as passes were either spilled or the ball fumbled in contact, while the kicking on both sides was often aimless.

Swansea's cause was not helped when they had skipper Scott Gibbs sin-binned for what the referee saw as illegal use of the boot at a ruck.

But the match was in the balance until Neath coach Lyn Jones tilted proceedings his side's way with second-half substitutions, one of which brought on the impressive Hywel Jenkins - who left St Helen's in the summer.
