Wood back in Irish fold
Ireland captain Keith Wood missed the trip to Poland because of club commitments
Wood is set to lead Ireland in World Cup qualifiers

Ireland skipper Keith Wood returns to international duty next week as part of a 37-man squad's a six-day training camp in Limerick.

Irish coach Eddie O'Sullivan took a 51-man training group to Poland last month but Wood and Harlequins team-mate Paul Burke were absent due to club commitments.

Now both men are back in a streamlined squad as Ireland's coach Eddie O'Sullivan prepares for two World Cup qualifiers next month.

Also back in the fold is Bath centre Kevin Maggs, who has not played since breaking his arm last April.

Back surgery

Still missing, however, are Leicester's Geordan Murphy and Munster back row David Wallace.

They, along with with Leinster prop Emmet Byrne and Munster wing Anthony Horgan, are nursing shoulder injuries.

Munster second row Paul O'Connell has been ruled out until Christmas following back surgery while Munster back John O'Neill has an ankle injury.

The Irish have two World Cup qualifiers next month when they must travel to Siberia on 2 September to face Russia before returning to Dublin to play Georgia on 28 September.

Before that, on 7 September, O'Sullivan's team will face Romania in a friendly at Thomond Park in Limerick.
