Connacht sign Aussie giant
Lock forward Warwick Waugh will bring experience to Steph Nel's squad
Warwick Waugh had spells with Bath and Beziers

Connacht have signed former Australian lock forward Warwick Waugh.

The western province had been seeking an experienced second row after Mark McConnell was injured last season.

And 33-year-old Waugh certainly fits the bill.

He played for the Wallabies 28 times and went on to gain significant European Cup experience with Bath and Beziers.

Pre-season friendlies

His know-how should prove valuable to a squad whose average age is 22.

Waugh is due to make his Connacht debut in the pre-season friendly against Bristol Shoguns at the Galway Soprtsground on Wednesday 14 August.

Connacht then play Wasps at the English club's new ground at Adams Park in High Wycombe on Sunday 18 August.

Wasps are now under the guidance of Warren Gatland, the former Ireland and Connacht coach.
