Mermoz was selected ahead of Yannick Jauzion against Scotland
France centre Maxime Mermoz is set to miss the champions' next Six Nations match against Ireland next Sunday.
The 24-year-old was forced off with a shoulder injury after 45 minutes in the 34-21 win over Scotland on Saturday.
A resigned French coach Marc Lievremont said: "Once again I will not be able to field the same backs line-up for two successive matches."
Full-back Damien Traille, who moved to centre against Scotland, or Yannick Jauzion could start there in Dublin.
Jauzion, capped 70 times, was a surprise omission from the starting line-up against Scotland, while Traille has won the majority of his 78 caps at number 12.
The injury to Mermoz aside, Lievremont was relieved his side had put the 59-16 hiding by Australia in their final November Test behind them.
"It's a win which is the first thing," said the coach. "But I was happy with the performance which had a lot of rhythm, intensity and we were good at the basics.
"We respect the Scots and they gave us a good game. But at the end of it I am very happy and it came after a not very easy preparation because of what happened before."
Dusautoir impressed by Scotland
"Two months ago, we were all very worried," added captain Thierry Dusautoir, who admitted before the match that the French were low on confidence after the Wallabies reverse.
"We all had pin-pointed 5 February and this game. We tried to forget everything. We just focused on the victory and the game. We were very pleased with the result.
"We knew the Scottish team was going to be difficult and we are very satisfied with the result.
"We are quite happy to have won this game and I hope it will be okay next week.
"We played really well, but there is some stuff to work on next week.
"It's good to win and have something to work from. I hope we will be better next week against Ireland."
