Philip John Vickery begins his rugby career with Bude and later plays for Redruth before making the move to Gloucester in 1995 as a fresh-faced 19-year-old
In February 1998 Vickery makes his England debut in the Five Nations match against Wales after just 34 appearances at club level
The Gloucester prop recovers from a neck injury in time to feature for England in the 1999 World Cup including the match against Tonga that England win 101-10
The summer of 2001 sees Raging Bull play all three Tests for the British and Irish Lions against Australia - a series which sees the hosts win 2-1 after losing the opening Test against Graham Henry's Lions
Vickery scores a try in the 60-9 win over Newcastle at Kingsholm as the Cherry and Whites progress to the Zurich Championship final at Twickenham in 2002
Vickery confirms his status as a firm favourite with Gloucester fans as they beat local rivals Bristol 28-23 in the Twickenham final to provide the Kingsholm club with some welcome silverware
Vickery misses England's impressive Grand Slam campaign in 2003 due to a disc injury but is back to full fitness to play in the 2003 Word Cup - scoring a try against Samoa in the group stages
He plays every match down under and is rewarded with the ultimate prize as Sir Clive Woodward's men beat Australia to win the 2003 World Cup courtesy of Jonny Wilkinson's last-gasp drop-goal
Injuries plague Vickery's career as he misses the 2005 Lions tour to New Zealand with a broken arm while 2006 sees a major upheaval as he leaves Gloucester for Wasps following a third back operation
Vickery wins his first trophy at his new club as Wasps beat Leicester Tigers 25-9 in the Heineken Cup final at Twickenham in May 2007
After being appointed England's captain earlier in the year he leads the team to the 2007 World Cup final after a semi-final win over the hosts France but the team are eventually beaten by South Africa in the final
More success follows in the Wasps shirt as he helps the side to a 26-16 win over Leicester in the Guinness Premiership final at Twickenham at the end of May 2008
2009 sees Vickery selected for the Lions tour to South Africa where he starts in the first Test defeat while ending his Lions career playing in the third Test victory over the Springboks at Ellis Park
Further neck injuries require surgery and Vickery decides to bring an end to an illustrious career in October 2010 as he announces his retirement from the game
