De Villiers was up against Rene Ranger on the wing for the All Blacks |
South Africa winger Jean de Villiers has been banned for two weeks for a dangerous tackle during the 31-17 Tri-Nations loss to New Zealand. De Villiers was cited for a lifting tackle on Rene Ranger in the first half of Saturday's match in Wellington. He was suspended until 1 August and will miss the Springboks' next Tri-Nations match against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday. South Africa do not have a fixture the following weekend. De Villiers is the second Springboks player to be banned in this year's Tri-Nations after lock Bakkies Botha was suspended for nine weeks for head-butting All Blacks' scrum-half Jimmy Cowan in the first Test.
