Fly-half Matthew Jarvis kicked five points for an outgunned Wales side |
Wales Under-20 face hosts Argentina in the fifth-to-eighth placed play-offs after a big loss to New Zealand at the IRB Junior World Championship. Both sides entered the game at the Estadio CA Colon, Santa Fe, with 100% records after wins over Fiji and Samoa. But the Baby Blacks powered to a 31-10, four-tries-to-one half-time lead, Rhys Williams scoring Wales' only try with Matthew Jarvis kicking five points. In a quieter second half, New Zealand were restricted to two more tries. Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Julian Sevea (2), Tom Marshall (2) and Telusa Veainu were the New Zealand try scorers, fly-half Tyler Blyendall's impressive boot contributing 13 points. Wales will return to the Santa Fe stadium on Thursday to take on Argentina after their opponents ended their pool stage with a 24-21 win over Ireland. Argentina had earlier lost 48-22 to England and 31-23 to France. New Zealand advance to the semi-finals of the main competition and they face South Africa at Estadio El Coloso del Parque, Rosario on Thursday.
