Sweeney and Robinson hold the LV= Cup trophy ahead of Sunday's clash |
Outside-half Nicky Robinson says bigger crowds and more regular challenges are the benefits of his move to Gloucester. He revealed the positives of his move as he prepares to return to Cardiff for the first time as an away player. "We have great crowds at Kingsholm, and when we travel to places like Leicester you're getting 24,000," Robinson told BBC Wales Sport. "Those are great games, those are the reasons I went to play in the Premiership." Robinson, who played 120 times for the Blues before his move to England, will be in the Gloucester line-up for Sunday's LV= Cup semi-final at the City Stadium. "It's more of a weekly challenge and there are a lot of pressure games [at Gloucester]," he added. | 606: DEBATE |
Robinson, who's hoping to help break Gloucester's run of defeats against the Blues, sympathises with his former region's difficulties in creating an atmosphere at the new City Stadium home. "I know they've struggled a bit with some games with the size of the stadium, [in attempting] to create as good an atmosphere as there was at the Arms Park. "That was always going to be difficult. But the pitch is good and the boys are getting more settled." Robinson finished on the losing side when the two teams met at Kingsholm earlier in the competition, but says the return will be even more special for him. He's also vowing to avoid the prospect of being buried in too many rucks - as threatened by Blues skipper Paul Tito. "He's said I'm getting a warm welcome, but I'll try my best not to get involved in any rucks. Maybe I'll be lucky and get on top of him in a ruck and give him a taste of his own medicine!" Wearing the Blues number 10 shirt will be Ceri Sweeney, who was mostly overshadowed by Robinson during their time together at the region, but has now seen off the challenge of Aussie import Sam Norton-Knight to be first choice. | To get the run of games I've had has been really helpful to me |
"Consistency playing at 10 is very important" said Sweeney. "Coming in for one game every four weeks doesn't help you individually or the team. "They need the consistency of someone running the ship for them, so to get the run of games I've had has been really helpful to me." Sweeney knows he faces a new challenge from Scotland's Dan Parks next year, but is concentrating on seeing off Robinson and his Gloucester colleagues this week. "You always want to get one over someone who's gone to another club. He [Robinson] is pivotal to their team, they base their game around him and so they should because he's a quality player and brings the best out of them."
