Vagabonds record vital home win

Rugby Union

Vagabonds' strong home form in South Lancs/Cheshire Division One continued with a 12-8 victory over Glossop at Glencrutchery Road on Saturday.

The visitors raced into an 8-0 lead before Leigh Kennaugh converted a Simon Heggs try to leave it 8-7 at half-time.

Andy Pease settled the match in the second-half to earn Vagas an important victory in their bid to avoid the drop.

Club captain Kevin Birchall said: "This is a big win for us and hopefully we can build on it."

Meanwhile, a Douglas side with an average age of just 20 overcame stiff resistance at Oldershaw to secure a 22-15 win in Division Two.

Ramsey maintained their lead at the top of South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three with an emphatic 72-3 win over Congleton.

Elsewhere, Southern Nomads tightened their grip on the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield, beating Ramsey B 53-0 at King William's College.
