Vagabonds recorded a 17-13 victory over Winnington Park in the South Lancs/Cheshire Division One on Saturday.

The victory over the league's fourth-placed side sees the Manx team move to within just two points of Hoylake, who lie in ninth spot.

Vagabonds captain Kevin Birchall said: "We had some key players back in the side and we really took it to them."

The game was played at Ramsey's Mooragh Park due to a frozen pitch at Glencrutchery Road.

Birchall continued: "If we can keep this level of performance up, I am sure we can climb the table in the new year."

The Manx side's next fixture will be away to Dukinfield on Saturday 9 January.
