Wasps took another step towards the LV= Cup semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over struggling Gloucester.

After Eoghan Hickey had kicked Wasps into an early lead, Freddie Burns converted two of his own tries to put the visitors 14-3 ahead.

But Joe Simpson's introduction turned the game and, after Tom Varndell raced over, the scrum-half dived in from close range to restore Wasps' lead.

Dave Walder then knocked over two penalties to seal his side's win.

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath:

"We are cutting our own throats with poor decisions and mistakes.

"I can't fault the desire or the work ethic. But we could help ourselves by sticking to what we set out to do.

"We try to become too positive when we need to start off a bit negative to create a foundation."
