Flood ruptured an Achilles tendon in the Heineken Cup last season |
Toby Flood came off the bench to kick two crucial penalties against a spirited Dragons in the LV= Cup. The Dragons overturned a 11-point deficit to take a 12-11 half-time lead thanks to Jason Tovey and Aled Brew tries, converted by Shaun Connor. An early Anthony Allen second-half try and a converted penalty try put Leicester in command, but the Dragons hit back with a Rhodri Gomer touchdown. Flood, making his first appearance in six months, ensured a home victory.
Leicester's Toby Flood: "It was strange having to get my head around the calls again but the fun part was running around again with the guys after such a long time out. "I think the Achilles is all right. I didn't even think about it during the game. I felt confident and, if anything, being involved in a game makes you think about it even less. "It's been a hugely frustrating period and a bitter-sweet thing. You know you are always going to come back and there is light at the end of the tunnel." Dragons coach Paul Turner: "I wasn't happy with our set piece and Leicester punished us there. "At half-time both Richard (Cockerill) and I had a word with the official. It's not my style to want to criticise officials but he didn't sort anything out particularly and just left everything to chance. "I felt there were probably about a dozen holding penalties in the first half. We had targeted the breakdown and just didn't get our just desserts there."
