Ruaridh Jackson capped a great start to the Magners League season for Glasgow with a splendid try as Munster were toppled at Firhill.

The replacement fly-half finished off a slick move through the reigning champions' defence late in the second half to clinch a deserved win.

Dan Parks had kicked the home side into a strong position with five penalties.

Jeremy Manning replied with three penalties for the visitors, while Mark McMillan converted Glasgow's try.

Sean Lineen's side withstood some heavy pressure in the opening stages to dominate against last season's title-winners.

Glasgow showed impressive defensive steel with massive hits on Doug Howlett, Lifeimi Mafi and Manning to keep Munster at bay.

The visitors kicked the first points when Manning profited from a Glasgow mix-up but Parks hit back immediately following a good move involving Thom Evans and Bernard Stortoni.

The home side began to impose themselves on the Munster pack, with Scotland centre Graeme Morrison carving great holes in the midfield and scrum-half Chris Cusiter looking sharp.

The pressure told as Parks kicked three further penalties to take Glasgow in 12-3 ahead at half-time.

Glasgow continued to impress after the break and rookie prop John Welsh had the crowd roaring with a scorching run down the wing but Munster held out then worked back upfield for Manning to kick his second penalty on 55 minutes.

Number three followed seven minutes later, only for Parks to hold his nerve and restore the margin with 12 minutes left with his fifth.

The game's only try came eight minutes from the end as Stortoni ran back a loose kick then linked for Morrison to blast through to five yards from the line to put Jackson, who had been on the field for two minutes, over.

McMillan, another late replacement, converted from wide out and Glasgow ran the clock down to collect a huge morale-boosting win.
