Magners League matches will continue to be shown on BBC Cymru Wales and S4C until at least 2014. The current deal was due to expire at the end of the 2009/10 season, but Celtic Rugby Ltd have agreed a four-year extension for live match coverage. Scrum V Live will continue to show matches on BBC tv and online, with S4C's Y Clwb Rygbi providing Welsh language broadcasts. Action will be available on demand for seven days on the BBC and S4C websites. The Magners League comprises teams from the regions of Wales, Scotland and Ireland, with the potential for two Italian teams to join during the 2010-2011 season. "I am very pleased that we have continued our relationship with BBC Wales and S4C," said Director of Celtic Rugby David Jordan. | 606: DEBATE |
"They have always been very supportive partners of the Magners League and have been very important in helping us to create one of the best professional rugby union leagues in world rugby. "With the league introducing play-offs next season then we can look forward to an increase in excitement and competitiveness." Setanta Sports is currently also a partner broadcaster of the Magners League. The UK arm of Setanta went into administration this week after failing to make a number of payments to sporting organisations. But Setanta International and Setanta Ireland have not entered administration and Setanta Ireland will cover broadcasting in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. At this point it is expected that Setanta Ireland will continue as a rights holder of Magners League games. From next season the Magners League will introduce an end-of-season play-off to decide the champions. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for a new-look knock-out stage. The Guinness Premiership in England and the Top 14 in France already operate an end-of-season play-off system.
