O'Driscoll said Leinster would not have won the Heineken Cup without Elsom |
The ACT Brumbies appear to be leading the chase to sign Leinster's Heineken Cup final hero Rocky Elsom. Flanker Elsom is being courted by Australian rugby bosses to make a return to the international arena. If he does opt to return Down Under, he is being tipped to join the Brumbies although Queensland and his former club New South Wales also want his services. Leinster coach Michael Cheika is also making efforts to convince Elsom to remain with the Irish province. The Brumbies squad already includes big names Matt Giteau, George Smith, Stephen Moore and Wallabies captain Stirling Mortlock. Elsom has made a huge impact with Leinster since joining the club last September and Brian O'Driscoll said that the Irish side would not have won the Heineken Cup without the Australian's efforts. | 606: DEBATE |
Brumbies boss Andrew Fagan has been non-committal on Elsom's recruitment but he confirmed contact had been renewed by the flanker recently. "He checked to confirm whether a position was available basically. How our contracting was going. That was it," Fagan told Queensland newspaper the Courier-Mail. "We let him know that we'd have a spot available if he was keen to look at us as an option. "I wouldn't really know which way he is leaning. Rocky understands he has some choice there."
