Scotland were in fine form at Twickenham |
Scotland lost 26-12 to hosts England in the semi-final of the London Sevens at Twickenham on Sunday. The Scots had edged out Portugal 22-21 in the quarter-finals, the first time they had reached that stage in the IRB Sevens Series this season. Coach Stephen Gemmell said: "It was the first-ever Cup semi-final for Scotland Sevens and you can't take that away from the players. "However, the boys are in there bitterly disappointed." Gemmell hopes that the result will provide a catalyst for next week's event on home soil at Murrayfield. "We got back to 14-12 against England on their own patch and maybe just one or two wrong decisions cost us now and again as we tried to force one or two things," he said. "We'll go away and review the game before travelling back up the road. Hopefully we've given the fans something to be proud of and we'll look to build on that next week." Scotland had finished top of Pool C, despite losing their opening pool match 17-12 to Kenya, after going on to beat Fiji 12-7 and routing the USA 40-0.
