Otley won promotion back to National League One last season |
Otley head coach Peter Clegg has said the club are doing everything they can to raise money to pay their players. The semi-professional squad have not been paid since the end of January due to the knock-on effects of the current economic downturn. "We are looking at ways to raise money so that the players can be paid, but nothing is guaranteed," Clegg told BBC Radio Leeds. "It is very sad to be in this position with Otley at the moment." The club are currently second-bottom of National League One and due to the restructuring of the division for next season they will be relegated.
The situation off the field has clearly affected the squad on it too, which was highlighted by their 95-5 hammering at Nottingham last Sunday. Clegg added: "It wasn't the game on Sunday that was the problem it was the position the club are in off the field that affected the performance. "Trying to get a competitive team out for Otley is very hard at the moment. "It's a game of rugby but we all know what is going on in the economic climate today. "Otley are very much apart of that and unfortunately it's the players that are taking the brunt of it at the moment."
