Leeds Carnegie are through to the semi-finals of the EDF Energy National Trophy after a dramatic 26-24 win at Birmingham & Solihull.

Leeds trailed 24-12 with just six minutes left but scored late tries through Scott Freer and 19-year-old debutant prop Phil Swainston.

Head coach Neil Back told BBC Radio Leeds: "The game is about playing the whole 80 and you have to do that."

Leeds will now face one of Nottingham, Moseley or Exeter in the semi-finals.

This last gasp win keeps both Leeds' unbeaten season and dream of a league and cup double alive.

"We were really tested today," said Back. "A lesser team would have folded and given up the ghost, but great teams go to the final whistle and that's what we did.

"We showed tremendous character, as we have all season, and that's why we are still unbeaten.

"The Bees were always going to be very spirited and they played with a lot of heart. They can walk into the clubhouse with their heads held high, we have a massive respect for them."
