Argentina skipper Contepomi (right) kept Italy at bay in Turin |
Argentina ended their four-match winless run with victory over Italy at Turin's Stadio Olimpico on Saturday. Captain Felipe Contepomi kicked 17 points to guide the Pumas to only their second win since their third-place finish at the 2007 World Cup. Argentina scored their only try in the 50th minute when Juan Martin Hernandez fed Rafael Carballo for the touchdown. Andrea Marcato kicked two penalties and a drop-goal for Italy before Andrea Masi ran in a try in stoppage time. Argentina's victory eased the pressure on coach Santiago Phelan, who had not won since beating Scotland in his first game in charge last June. Italy have not beaten the Pumas at home since 2005 and will aim to get back to winning ways when they face the Pacific Islanders in their final autumn Test next weekend.
