Hooker Dimitri Szarzewski runs in a try for France |
France eased to victory in Sochaux after Napolioni Nalaga was sent off for a late and high tackle which knocked out Jean-Baptiste Elissalde. The Islanders led 6-3 through two penalties from Seremaia Bai before Nalaga was dismissed on 18 minutes. Dimitri Szarzewski, Sebastien Tillous-Bordes, Cedric Heymans, Louis Picamoles and Maxime Medard scored tries for France. A late try by Epi Taione was scant consolation for the Islanders. Nalaga's dismissal changed the complexion of the game with Elissalde forced the leave the field on a stretcher, but the scrum-half regained consciousness in the dressing room. "I wasn't seriously hurt but it was frightening," said Elissalde. Man of the match Heymans admitted France were sluggish for much of the game. "It took us a while to press home our player advantage but when we got that first try then that settled us down," said the Toulouse flyer. "Like last week against Argentina we got the job done, but against Australia next Saturday we will have to shape up."
