After 134 years Coventry Rugby club's future is in jeopardy

Coventry face a race against time to preserve their future and stay in National League One.

The Rugby Football Union has confirmed it has given the club two weeks to raise a bond, thought to be 100,000.

Coventry also have to give further assurances, including the continued use of the Butts Park Arena.

An appeal has been launched to raise the money and the RFU says it has extended an earlier deadline because it believes progress is being made.

Coventry's chairman Andrew Green remains confident they will pull through.

"It has been a frustrating time," said. Green. "But what has come to light is that both the RFU and the people of Coventry care about Coventry Rugby and I am sure that a positive conclusion will be reached."

The RFU's management board chairman Martyn Thomas added: "We sincerely hope that the club can meet the conditions laid down and the extra time has been granted because of the progress that has been made in that direction."
