Yarnbury currently play in Yorkshire Two |
Yarnbury RFC is one of Yorkshire's oldest rugby union clubs and boasts one of the best youth sections of any club in the region. Formed in 1872, and based in Horsforth in Leeds, Yarnbury struggle to balance their finances like many amateur clubs. "Fund-raising events are vital to amateur clubs like Yarnbury," said rugby chairman Dave Hornby. "The committee, members, volunteers and players do a great job keeping this club running successfully." However we are strictly amateur, with no big-money backer, so every penny counts." The club now plan to hold a funding raising day on Saturday 5th July to increase finance and playing numbers. The 'family fun day' will include with stalls, activities, a BBQ at the club, followed in the evening by a disco with a chilli supper. As well as an impressive junior section, Yarnbury's seniors are also strong and field four teams every Saturday. After recent years of transition the first team has now climbed back up the leagues, with a young side playing in Yorkshire Two under the guidance of Yorkshire's County Cup winning coach Bob Hood. Hornby added: "Not many clubs can boast they can field four senior teams week in, week out, and it's great to see so many young boys and girls playing in the junior setup at weekends. "It's vital we keep that going for the future of both the club and rugby within Yorkshire, but we need to be financially secure to do just that."
