Georgina Rosario came on as a replacement

Plymouth Albion scrum-half Georgina Rosario played for England as they beat Wales 12-6 in the final of the European women's rugby championships.

Rosario was a 73rd-minute replacement for Richmond's Amy Turner in Amsterdam.

Katy McLean scored all of England's points in a tight game which did not feature a try.

"Wales gave us a very good test though, our first real test since the Rugby World Cup Final in 2006," said head coach Gary Street.

Street added: "We are delighted with this victory. We have not won the elite European Championships since 1997."

Wales had gone into a 6-0 lead and it was not until the 53rd minute that England got on the score sheet thanks to the first of McLean's four penalties.

"You need tight games like this though, and we proved today that we can come from behind and win," Street said.

England add the continental title to the Six Nations Grand Slam they won earlier this year.

Meanwhile Devon's other England player, Clifton's Danielle Waterman, was part of the England team which won the London sevens with a 14-10 win over New Zealand Aotearoa Maori in the final.
