Toulouse won the Heineken Cup at Murrayfield in 2005 |
Scotland's Murrayfield Stadium will host the 2009 Heineken Cup final. The final will take place on either 23 or 24 May and returns to Edinburgh for the first time since Toulouse won there in 2005. On Saturday, Wales' Millennium Stadium plays host to Munster and Toulouse who will compete in this year's final. "We are delighted to be bringing the Heineken Cup final back to Scotland," said European Rugby Cup chief executive Derek McGrath. A below-capacity 51,000 crowd watched in Edinburgh as Toulouse won the trophy for the third time. "We know that from now until next April we will be selling an event for which we don't know who will be involved, but this year we had sold out all our tickets by February," added McGrath. "So a lot of people are interested in coming to this event even if they don't know who will be involved, and that's what we are offering to the Scottish public. "It is a very special event - it is rugby but not rugby like they have seen before. "And, of course, Edinburgh is a very attractive destination, so it is an easy sell in that regard."
