The Millennium Stadium is one of four possible semi-final venues |
Ospreys have been handed a further incentive to beat Saracens in Sunday's Heineken Cup quarter-final with a trip to the Millennium Stadium on offer. If Saracens win they face Munster or Gloucester at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, but an Ospreys victory will see that semi-final at Wales' national stadium. The other semi-final depends on the winner of London Irish and Perpignan. Toulouse or Cardiff Blues will face Irish at Twickenham or Perpignan at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier. Irish host Perpignan on Saturday, the same day that Gloucester and Munster clash at Kingsholm, while the Blues travel to Toulouse on Sunday in the last quarter-final. The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of 26-27 April and the European Rugby Cup chairman, Jean-Pierre Lux, said it was important to have plans in place for possible venues. | 606: DEBATE |
"In order to showcase the best rugby-playing talent in the northern hemisphere, as well as ensure a wonderful experience for the growing number of fans, we have pre-selected the venues for the semi-finals," Lux said. "We are delighted to have four world-class stadia on stand-by in France, England and Wales to host the various semi-final options. "This means fans will know exactly where they are going once their team has won through to the last four. "A quarter-final win for Perpignan will see the competition break new ground with a game at the impressive Stade de La Mosson in Montpellier, which hosted several World Cup games earlier in the year." Twickenham and the Millennium Stadium have both hosted European Cup finals but are in line for first outings as semi-final venues. The Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City FC, hosted last season's semi-final between London Wasps and Northampton Saints. It was also used by London Wasps for their opening Pool match this season against Munster, who could return there if they overcome Gloucester and Saracens see off Ospreys. Only London Irish's home quarter-final against Perpignan is not sold out ahead of the weekend, with Saracens fully booked at 18,214 for the first time since moving to Vicarage Road. The tie between Toulouse and Cardiff Blues at Le Stadium will have a capacity 35,009 crowd, while all 16,500 Kingsholm tickets have long since gone for Gloucester's home clash with Munster. Irish have sold 14,000 tickets for the Madejski Stadium and are expecting a large walk-up on the day.
